National Lutheran Schools Week

Ready! Set! Go! National Lutheran Schools Week (NLSW) at Lincoln Lutheran took place during the week of January 23. During National Lutheran Schools week, the students celebrate the opportunity to attend a Lutheran school. The students dress up with different themes each day during the week. Our dress up days included Pajama day, Lutheran Spirit Day, Wacky Wednesday, 80’s day, and Super Hero/Villain day. This year, the students celebrated NLSW by having the all the Lutheran elementary schools come and join our school for a chapel led by Andy Stumpf, the Director of Christian Education (DCE) at Christ.

Miss Bockelman is the head teacher of National Lutheran Schools Week. Miss Bockelman’s favorite dress up day is “Pajama day because I don’t really have to think about what I want to wear, and I can stay comfortable all day.” The Bible verse that Miss Bockelman really likes for NLSW is Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” She likes this verse because it is her hope and prayer that all of the students at Lincoln Lutheran is that the students are trained well, and know the Bible well, so that when they are older they won’t turn away from the Bible. What impacted Miss Bockelman the most from this past week was the chapel with 800+ students, and seeing them all come together to celebrate the schools coming together for a worship service.

The students at Lincoln Lutheran also enjoy the opportunity to celebrate NLSW. Allie Shambaugh-Miller, who is a Sophomore in high school. Allie is part of Student Council, and enjoys wearing her pajamas on Pajama Day. Allie said that it isn’t hard to plan for National Lutheran School week, she says that it only consists of the dress up days and the fundraiser. Our fundraiser this year was the “Change challenge” which helped support Elisha Meyer and his family go to Haiti to help spread the gospel by bringing the people in Haiti house essentials such as food, tooth brushes, toys for children, Bibles etc. The students and staff helped him raise over $600 for his trip. Elisha will be visiting Haiti during the first week of February 2017. National Lutheran Schools Week is a great week to celebrate the opportunity to attend a Lutheran schools, and Lutheran schools across the nation celebrate this week along with the students and staff here at Lincoln Lutheran.
