As spring approaches, the boys golf team is getting into full swing. Head coach Carl Johnson, in his seventh year of coaching: junior Luke Bartels, and sophomore Jaxson Klein are excited to get back out on the course.
Coach Johnson said that “we have an excellent shot at making it to state as a team this year,” Luke woud have to agree too, adding that this year “will be even better that last year.” Last year Carl said “we were a young team, with several new players stepping into varsity spots.” The team proved their worth last year when they won the Lincoln Christian Invitational and almost making it to districts. Carl is hopeful for the team to come back stronger then they left off last year as they didn’t lose any seniors. Many of the returning members practiced over the off season. When they return this year a new rule change, allowing the use of range finders, will give the players an even bigger boost Coach johnson hopes.
It’s because of this improvement and growth that keeps Carl coming back every year, saying, “I love teaching golf and watching people grow in their skills and find success in the course.” When asked why they come back Jaxson and Luke agreed that “It’s the most fun I’ve had of any sport in high school.” All three men would easily recommend golf to anyone who is interested, Carl says “Golf is a game and sport that you can play through your life..we have all kinds of students come out for golf, some to play competitively and some just to have fun”. Luke and Jaxson looks forward to golf season every year to hang out with thier friends and improve on their favorite golf courses, like Woodland Hills Luke’s personal favorite or Hillcrest Jaxson’s prefered course.
